NCC Laguna presents:

Sunday Service at NCC

Come join us Sunday mornings for an enlightening sermon by Reverend Jeff Utter, engaging children's activities, and special music with a variety of guest soloists!

Communion Sunday is the first Sunday of each month, and Healing Touch Sunday is the third Sunday of each month.  Sunday Morning Childcare is available each Sunday from 9:45am to 11:45am.

Notes for this Sunday's service:

Scripture reading: 1 Kings 19:8-12, 15, 18Luke 16:19-31

The passage from Kings shows clearly why Elijah was considered one of the greatest of the prophets.  He encounters God willy-nilly upon fleeing for his life from Queen Jezebel.  But his encounter with God on the holy mountain also reveals him as profoundly a man of prayer.  Elijah hears first what earlier translations called “a still, small voice,” but our contemporary Bible translates as “a sound of sheer silence.”  And yet out of the silence comes the voice of God.

In Jesus’ parable of the rich man and Lazarus we focus on this occasion on its final sentence. Jesus makes clear the crucial formative power of Scripture in the life of the faithful person.  Those who do not know the history of God’s dealings with Israel will either disbelieve altogether in God’s judgment and grace, or misinterpret it in false and magical ways.
