9-07-14: Watch Out For Those Women

Scripture: Exodus 1:8-2:10; Psalm 124

The life of faith is lived in community, where many gifts support the body of Christ. In the Exodus account, women worked together to oppose injustice and protect life. Each person has a role to play to bring about the realm of God here on earth. It took a village of women—the midwives Shiprah and Puah, Moses’ mother and sister, and the daughter of Pharaoh—to birth, protect, and raise Moses, the leader who would save the Hebrew people from slavery and oppression. The midwives disobeyed Pharaoh and called forth new life. Moses lived because of his mother, sister, and the daughter of Pharaoh. Each person has a place in the realm of God, and each person has the ability needed to make a difference in our world.
